Real Lives – Real Bedroom Design

Have you ever sat in a waiting room and thumbed the magazines and drooled over the bedroom design in celebrities’ homes. We all do it and why not. Why shouldn’t we aspire to a glossy bedroom design complete with accessories?

Perhaps your lifestyle does not require endless bedroom storage. Space for a well-worn backpack could be just the ticket for the more bohemian amongst us.

Lets face it what is point of hanging space for Ball Gowns if you wouldn’t be seen dead in one.

So lets dream and aspire but, lets design a bedroom together that is for real people living great lives, their way. Old Blue Eyes himself sang My Way successfully throughout his life and when it comes to interior bedroom design that is a great mantra to adopt.

This is one of our customer’s stories who definitely knew how to do it their way.

Mr and Mrs Jones (named changed for privacy) have two sons both who have now flown the nest.   They live in a 3 bedroom semi-detached house in Billericay Essex. They could have opted to move to larger home but preferred to have lots of family holidays creating life long memories.

In the words of Mrs Jones “our home is filled with love and its cosy, but our holidays created shared experiences and treasured memories. A larger house would have given us more bricks and mortar but that wasn’t our priority. Sharing and showing our boys the world and all it has to offer was the focus for us.”

Nowadays their children pay for their own holidays so they have decided to spend the extra cash renovating one of their spare bedrooms. The bedroom design was also to incorporate personal space for each of them.

Mrs Jones was a keen writer and wanted a desk and a place that she could set aside to work. Over the years the lounge housed the family computer and now it was time for a dedicated work area. Mr Jones a collector of travel books wanted somewhere to house his treasured possessions. At the same time they wanted to preserve each room as a bedroom so if guests, or the boys wished to stay they had a fully functioning bedroom. With the bedroom design practicalities outlined it was then time to move on to style.

In particular they wanted to redesign the bedroom to encapsulate some of the ideas and the things they like most from their travels. During the bedroom design phase we discussed the styles that appealed. Gloss bedrooms reminded them of their times when they stayed in more exclusive hotels. Whilst white matt finish wardrobes reminded them of hot climates of the Caribbean where the bedroom design was crisp and cool. Both of these styles resonated with the Jones’s so it was then my job as the bedroom designer to create a visual of the design ideas.

This was the preliminary bedroom design drawn by hand to get the first look and feel of the room.

The Jones agreed the design and once we reviewed the finer details of electrical sockets etc we were all set to complete a colour Computer Aided Drawing (CAD). They opted for a cream ash finish as they liked the richness of cream once they perused the samples.

Upon review the Jones’ were delighted what our bedroom designer had created as it met their criteria to deliver both a home office and a bedroom. The end result was multi-functioning space that had style and practicality.

So you see, whatever your motivation to renovate your bedroom there is a way to design a room that is just right for you.
