Ready to replace your wardrobes

Before you set off to replace your wardrobes or outdated bedroom with a retro look you might want to ask – What does retro mean to you?
We have been debating amongst the team when does outdated become retro. The debate started when one of our clients looking to renovate their “outdated bedroom” was looking for an interior designer to replace their wardrobes with a real eye for retro .
In summary our client wanted a bedroom renovation styled from the past with a modern twist. We are pleased to say that the newly fitted bedroom that she was looking for is now complete. This image shows our first retro wardrobes style we presented in the first phase of the project.

However, back at base the debate rolled on and is subjective. We looked on-line and learned that The word “retro” derives from the Latin prefix retro, meaning “backwards, or in past times”. Wikipedia is wonderful for giving those nuggets of information that somehow stay with you.
In the end we all agreed that retro involved being nostalgic and reminiscing of things in the past.
We also believed that it is about age and design.
However, we couldn’t agree how old or what designs.

What also really jumped out is that the increasing trend of Up-Cycling has seen bedroom furniture items thought to be a thing of past making a welcome and stylish come back.

People all over the world are taking pieces of furniture and creating new and modern wardrobes. Wonderful ideas are busting from creative and practical people.

Our conclusion was there are so many references and genres to retro we just accepted that it meant the same but, slightly different to all of us depending how retrospective we were. Oh and maybe how old we are too! Least said about that one the better.
