The one place you should be able to get a good nights sleep is in your bedroom. So over the coming months our BLOG will include lifestyle matters and general health topics that we hope you will enjoy. Here is the first entitled How to Achieve A Good Sleep for Health and Wellness.

We all know sleep makes us feel better, but the benefits of sleep go much beyond ‘feel good factor’ or banishing under-eye circles. Adequate amount of sleep is crucial for heart, mind, weight and body. When you are asleep, your body can rejuvenate and heal itself. It might come as a surprise to you, that your mind is amazingly busy while you are snoozing. During sleeping your mind strengthens your memory, and practice skills you have learnt while you were awake.

It has come out in several studies that too much or too less sleep is associated with shorter lifespan. Though it’s not very clear whether it’s a cause or an effect. But there is no doubt that sleep improves the quality of life. There are many thing in life that we take for granted are affected by sleep. People who get less sleep – 6 or fewer hours of sleep at night have shown tendency for higher blood pressure and are more prone to heart disease.

Sleep deprivation also prematurely ages you by interfering with your growth hormone production. This is normally released by your pituitary gland during deep sleep. Growth hormone helps you look and feel younger.

Given all the health and mind benefits of the sleep, it becomes imperative to look for ways to achieve better quality of sleep. Though there are many obvious ways in which the quality of sleep can be dramatically improved, such as lighting, sound, wall color etc. We will focus here more on your mattress, which has rather remained a less talked about subject in the past but plays a very crucial role in achieving quality sleep.

While you are strolling around looking for the best mattress, you can stick to few thumb rules to decide on the best mattress. The mattress that gradually sinks you into deep sleep naturally and wakes you up in the morning without aches and pain is the one that you should buy. Choosing mattress is a daunting task and if you are not careful enough you will easily find yourself stuck with a wrong mattress for next few years till you make up your mind to change it.

The bed and the mattress should be such that can support your body in a neutral position. The one that provides your spine a nice curvature, while supporting your buttocks, heels, shoulders, and head in a proper alignment.

Don’t buy a mattress that is too firm. It will put pressure on those main pressure points and take you out of alignment. But if the mattress is too soft, it will not be able to support those pressure points and will make your whole body flop back. Both the scenarios will lead to an achy morning.

If you get up in the morning and observe some low back pain which you get rid of in 15 or 30 minutes with light stretch, it’s an indication that you are sleeping on an in inappropriate mattress and its time you change your mattress.

Buying a new mattress had been a full day affair until now. Walking around from one shop to other to find that perfect mattress which meets all the above quality has never been easy and then the cost factor. Online venues for shopping of mattresses brings convenience to literally browse through thousands of mattress and beds online to compare and match and arrive at one that exactly fits with your needs and remains within your budget. There are many ways to find your ideal mattress but, if like us you like to shop local check out your local directory of businesses in the Essex, Hertfordshire and Kent area. We wish you all a good nights sleep.
